Start/Stop Work Order Timer
If your organization uses the Work Order Start/Stop feature, options display in the Work Order Summary and Detail Action menus to start a work order timer, stop a work order timer, or go to an already started work order.
You can only have one work order started at a time. As such, only one of the three options will ever display. If no work order has been started by you, the Start Timer option displays. If the work order you are accessing is already started by you, the Stop Timer option displays. If you have a work order started but it is not the one you are currently viewing, the Go to Started Work Order option displays in the dark gray section at the bottom of the Action menu.
If a work order has been started by you, you can also select Go to Started Work Order from the Work Order List or Work Order section of the home page.
-
Access the work order and go to the Summary or Detail page.
-
Tap Action in the section header.
The Action menu opens.
-
Select Start Timer.
If the option does not display, you may have already started another work order. Check to see if there is an option to Go to Started Work Order at the bottom of the Action menu.
A warning message appears, asking you to confirm that you want to start the timer for this work order. Once you confirm, a work order labor record will be created for you with the current time populated in the Time In field.
-
Access the work order and go to the Summary or Detail page.
-
Tap Action in the section header.
The Action menu opens.
-
Select Stop Timer.
The Stop Timer page displays with the current time populated into the Time Out field. Make sure the proper times are listed and then specify what type of hours should be recorded in the Type field, such as Regular, Overtime, or Other.
If the times indicated are incorrect, you can modify the times by tapping or pressing on the label or Calendar icon. As new times are specified, the elapsed time and calculated hours will be updated.

You can record progress on the work order on the Status Update page.
-
Tap Save.
If you have started a work order and need to navigate to it, there are several places in MC Express with options to find it quickly.
-
From the Home Page Work Order Section or Work Order List, tap the Action button and select Go to Started Work Order.
-
From the Summary Page of any work order, you can open the Action button and select Go to Started Work Order.
-
If you have started the timer on a work order, that work order will be marked as Started on the Work Order List.
If there is not a started work order, none of these options display.
MC Express prevents work orders with a started work order labor record from being completed or closed. This logic is in place because the started work order labor record needs to be stopped prior to completing the work order.
If you access the Status Update Page on a work order that has been started by another user, their information will appear in a message will appear at the top of the page.
To complete the work order:
-
Contact the User: You can contact the specified user and ask them to stop the started labor record (Stop Timer).
-
Edit Labor Record: If you have permission, you can edit the specified user's work order labor record and stop it on behalf of the user.
Depending on your access rights, you may not have permission to stop the timer. If you do not have permission, you will see a "view-only" page upon selecting the started work order labor record. If this occurs, you will need to ask a System Administrator for assistance.
There are two reasons that a work order on which you started the timer could be "stopped" without you explicitly stopping the timer:
-
Stopped by another User
System Administrators (and others who have been granted this permission) can edit a started work order labor record and stop it on your behalf. This allows others to stop the timer on a work order that was inadvertently left in progress. Since work orders cannot be completed when a work order timer has been started, this feature is often used to clear out the started work order session.
-
Work Order Closed in MRO/TWC
The Maintenance Connection MRO/TWC does not currently offer the feature to start work order timers. In the unlikely event that a work order with a record in progress (started) is closed in the MRO/TWC, that record will be "stopped". This ensures that the user that originally "started" the timer can start the timer on another work order.
The Time In recorded on the work order labor record will be populated with the same time as the Time Out (started time), ensuring that the regular hours recorded will be set to zero. If this needs to be corrected, the work order can be reissued.
